pre & post photos during the CE sportsfest

Two weeks ago, we had the opening of our department sportsfest. It was done primarily to promote camaraderie among 200+ associates within a single department. Hoorah to the committee for their outpouring time and effort to make the activity possible.

I shall post photos according to team colors. But before that, let me share some photos taken before and after the parade and ceremony.

wanted roommate

My colleague sent out an email yesterday informing everybody that she's looking for a roommate. She just found an apartment which she claimed to have the following deals: well ventilated, with CR and kitchen, rooftop with views of the nearby hotel and Mactan bridge, place is calm and safe, accessible, one ride to office, free water charge, electric bill separate, newly constructed, etc. Sounds tempting to me huh! I've seen some of the units since one of my good friends is living there. I have been looking for an apartment myself but i think i'm changing plans. This could have been a good offer at a reasonable price. A friend also announce he's selling his car because he wants to have a car with auto air conditioning unit. The office has now become the most perfect trading avenue. :)

handy tools

As i have mentioned, Christmas is just around the corner. That brought me to reminiscing some previous christmas parties in the office and the gifts that i gave and received during the kris kringle and exchanging gifts. In one of those parties, the person who gave me a gift the year before was the same person i was gonna give a gift. We had this sort of wish list where every participant can write what she wishes to have. She wanted to have a set of screw drivers. I was amused. She's a woman and wanting to have a set of screw drivers was the last thing i could think of. But that was her wish so i made an effort of going through hardware shops and looked for her screw drivers. Glad i found one and i hope she liked it. Haven't i bought her screw drivers, i think she will still like these air tools i found online. Don't you think?

workloads on top of other workloads

Here in the office, one associate may not only work on his assigned project. Sometimes, he/she gets to tackle tasks other than his pre assigned tasks. Reasons could be urgent customer request or tight deadline or both. Or it could be that the previous assigned associate is currently not available to work on a certain request so another associate will have to take his/her place. Worst case scenario, previous assigned associate has resigned and is therefore deemed necessary that another engineer may take his/her project on top of his/her current workload. Case like this is crucial i may say. It will take longer lead time for the succeeding one to finish in addition to the amount of time to be accumulated for the learning curve. However, this may not be inevitable as we can't hold on people to stick with the company forever nor ask people to stick on one project for a lifetime, well rhetorically speaking. Maybe a task management software will do some magic and aid in organizing various tasks around.

supervisory development program

A week ago, i attended this training held in one of the other plant sites. It was a pretty interesting and engaging training. At some point I got sleepy because i had to wake up early but wasn't because of a boring discussion. As part of our activities, we were divided into two group and was asked to build a bridge through the papers and scotchtape only. I think the other group made a better bridge than ours. lol! :P

my group

I'd say i have few inputs on how to become an effective supervisor now. We'll see... ;)

long day today

I woke up to 2 missed calls and 3 text messages from colleagues telling me to come to work early. There's a hot issue concerning one of the projects and needs to be addressed ASAP. I was wishing 3 beautiful inspiring greetings will wake me and not work buzzes. It's really a long day today - 3 workloads to monitor plus deciding on which of the applicants to hire plus looking for the missing tool! I just want to go to sleep now...

i is for the icing

Last July 30 was the 5 & 10 years service awarding ceremony in the office. I remember in college, the university usually will hold this ceremony in a restaurant in a formal gathering. It's always something my teachers would look forward to. Here in the office, it's absurdly different. The attendees are the awardees just themselves and the management. So, they will have to applaud for themselves - no audience. Hehe....

Well, anyways, i had my 5th year award already some 2 years ago. I just took a photo of their cake and icing, courtesy of my colleague-awardee, Macelle.

fire alarm!

I've been working in this company for over 7 years now. Yet, everytime the fire alarm goes off, i'm still like a newbie who'd panic like crazy!!! I'd know that they're just false alarms but i'd still halt for a minute then couldn't think of what to do. Whether i'd shut down my pc or grab my mobile phone or grab my bag and go out. It's an SOP to immediately leave the workstation when an alarm is heared.

Earlier was no excuse. My heartbeat beats like crazy and i just stood for a minute or so before i finally moved. The picture above are my officemates making our way outside the company premise.

panghabwa part 2

After i have moved to the new lab in the office, I took another leap of arranging my stuff today. I have two cabinets but i was told they're going to get my other cabinet as one person shall only have one cabinet. (wala na sila budget para cabinet sa mga new intakes! lol!) I'm mad because i have a lot of stuff and i don't know where to put them all! Anways, i spent an hour or so doing some cleaning and arranging.

long weekend

Yehey! We'll have no work on Monday... it's going to be a long weeekend for us. Here's why - a snippet of the HR email.

Republic Act No. 8952, declaring Wednesday, August 6, as a Special Non Working Holiday for the entire province of Cebu.

In order to give your employees a longer weekend to spend time with their families, the declared Special (non-working) holiday on August 6 shall be swapped to Monday, August 4, 2008.

The holiday by the way is: Cebu Provincial Foundation Day.

So, ig Wednesday pud ani, kami ra magtukawtukaw sa kadalanan mutrabaho!

take out again

Nag order2x napud mi sa office ganina ug Mcdo... of course apil gihapon ko bisan unta dili ko puede mukaon sa ana nga mga pagkaona... alangan if dili ko mu order, maglaway ko? LOL! Tsk.. way ayu dah..

HR exams

At about 5:00pm today, my colleagues and I took this personality exam entitled Manchester blah blah. It was conducted by one of the HR personnels but was requested by this expat from Spain office. I've been with this company for 7 years already. Why do we get to take some personality exam suddenly? He had his explanations and reasons, but we just find taking the exam weird! I mean, normally, personality tests are done prior to hiring or as part of selection process, right? It just came a surprise when we were set to take the personality test! Well, anyways, we took the exam. I'm interested to know what my personality interpretation be! Hehee!

Oist by the way, this expat is a cuttie. He has a lot of fans - the girls from the other departments. Kami? deadma!

phone call

You know, i have this hobby of answering phone calls in the not so conventional ways. Especially if i'm expecting a call or i already have a hunch who's calling. I realized, my intuitions can be wrong at times...

Ring.. ring... ring... (or should this be kring kring kring? lol)
Me: Hellloowwwwwwwwwwwww (not your typical Hello, good morning, good afternoon, etc)
Caller: Hello, ****? (my real name)
Me: Yup speaking! (not still in your usual polite mode)
Caller: This is D.E. (from Southfield,Michigan)...
Me: Ah hey, hi! how are you? (Ning panick akong beauty! abeh nako ug si Meloy nga akong amiga! ako diay supervisor sa MI! atot!) LOL!

Good thing, i didn't say helllllerrrr? (basin aning higayuna iya nako ipa assess for competency! har har)

civilian attire today

It's a Monday today but everyone here in the office is wearing civilian clothes. Huh why so? Yesterday, i got a text message from my manager telling me that wearing of uniform for tomorrow is waived due to the continuous rain over the weekend. No uniform it is! I forwarded the message to other colleagues and i got a couple of messages back. What type of civilian clothes? The friday dress code or business attire? Whooott? I asked my manager, and he just replied - your choice! Cool! :P

annual physical exam

July as you may know is my birth month and so today is my annual physical exam schedule in the office. Usually it's done on the last week of the month but they've change it on an earlier date recently. I think there are lots of examinees today because aside from the July birthday celebrators. The whole of security and maintenance crew were asked to undergo the physical exam. It just took me an hour maybe because i skipped the chest xray test. I had my xray done last April for a personal requirement i had to submit. I wanted to undergo the EKG test but only associates ages 35 above are advised to do so. I just wanted to check if my heart is doing fine. Haha! Needles, needles, i'm so used to it already! LOL!

arggh! i'm a dork!

Did i not say i cheat today for my diet? Spank me! I did it again! LOL! My coworkers were ordering pizza after dinner and just like all other of my stories, i did not resist the ill temptation. Betcha by golly wow! I think a mere pound that i lost in two weeks is doubled in just one day! Huhuh.... Maybe next time, i'll put something on my nose so i couldn't smell the food. Hahah!
