what i really want to be

Do you remember your elementary days when you exchange slumbooks or autographs with your friends and classmates? And do you ever remember the rather most interesting question which goes - what is your ambition in life or what do you want to become when you grow up? Funny but i always remember it. While most of my friends would say that they want to become a nurse, i was a bit different. I wanted to become an accountant, a CPA Lawyer at that! Though there were instances i'd put i want to become a nurse or a teacher but those times were probably just because it's what everyone wanted. Should have i pursued my original innocent dream, maybe i'm one kick-ass lawyer right now. :P Speaking of attorneys, if you're in a situation right now that needs to be addressed legally, don't hesitate to contact a Chicago accident attorney and rest assured you'd get the help you need.

2 long weekends gone

I hated the fact that two long weekends has passed but i did nothing special to make the most of the holidays. Nothing worthwhile to grab the non-working days. Last monday was a non working day and today is a non-working day too. Wow! that's a lot! Our offshore counterparts are way too envious of how many holidays we have here. They can't seem to fathom what those holidays for, lol. I could have gone on a vacation but i have cough so i don't feel like traveling. It's been pretty hectic in the office as well. And most of all, i don't have much money to spare right now. I'm so tempted by all those credit card agents who keep on calling me in the office. Maybe to be safe, i might as well just check out authorize.net and apply for a credit card online.

Well, there will be another holidays to come. I hope i get to enjoy the next ones.

special delicacies

You know what's nice when you have coworkers who come from different provinces? It's the delicacies they bring when they get back to work after vacationing to their hometowns. It's always a delight when you get to work and get to eat some special delicacies from them.

pili nuts anyone?

budbud muron
i was expecting the small thin budbuds but was surprised to see this big muron... this is the biggest muron i've seen! LOL! anyways, the bigger the muron, the bigger the chocolate part of the budbud...

It's 2:00am and i'm still eating! My diet is gone with the wind again. I should try another diet plan perhaps? Phentermine without a prescription i think is another alternative. I've heard much about it. Let's see.

parties and invitations

Who loves to party? Halloween invitations and parties might be too early to mention already. But if you're planning to hold a halloween party, conceptualizing early is beneficial. That will give you ample time to prepare a blastful and successful party. Speaking of parties i just received one invitation today. Not a halloween party of course!

It's the christening of my friend's daughter, Samantha. And i'm going to be a godmother for the 6th time. Great! :) Now, i'm contemplating whether or not to work on Friday. The party is on Friday afternoon and i feel lazy coming to work in the morning.

name your trip

I come from a country surrounded with thousands of beautiful islands. You have 3 options to get to different places - by land, sea or air or combination of the three. I love to travel but hate the motion sickness part on either of the three ways. Riding in busses could be fun especially if you get to have a nice look of the views you pass by. It could be tiring if it's like more than four hours ride already. Boats? Nah, would be fun but I hate to think that i can't swim if anything goes wrong. Planes? Sure thing for me especially if i can get fair flight deals to enjoy. Don't you think?

cinderella's shoes

Isn't it heaven when out of the blue you get to buy a pair of shoe that fits you? Lo & behold for I just found the cutest slip on shoes I have. The heels reminded me of Cinderella's shoes while the decorative gem stones that of former First Lady Imelda's gazillion pairs of shoes.

ain't that so endearing to wear? ;)

But hey, i may love all those girly sandals but i also find comforts in wearing flat close shoes. In fact, i find golf shoes to be really cool especially if i have one in pink.

artificial beauty

Artificial Beauty is one of the novela series shown in a local channel tv the past few days. I'm not sure if it's finish airing already or not. I have not seen it but my younger sister keeps on telling me that the series is nice and funny and that I should watch it. It's all about a girl who thinks that she's not pretty enough and further thinks that in order for her to achieve her dreams in life, she has to be beautiful and all. So, she decided to undergo some surgeries to improve her appearance. I have to watch the series to know what happens next. What is natural is fine but if you think you could go for enhancement, why not? Then again, since i'm afraid of medical procedures, i'd probably just hold on to my imagination that i'll undergo a nose job rhinoplasty in New Jersey NJ that with a note too that i have the money to spend for it.

on staying young looking young

One of my spare-time activities during weekend or on weeknights i don't have anything to do is go to my favorite beauty shop. I could waste 1-2 hours just roaming around looking at the different beauty products there is. I won't get bored getting into each of the aisles and keenly look into each of the products. It's not good if i have money because i surely will buy something to try on. Lol! From hair products, to lotion, to soaps, to gels, to body scrubs to make up. I'm really amused on the hundreds of beauty products available in the market today. Kind of confusing which one will surely work for you not unless you try it. I especially like body lotions and moisturizers. They say, to maintain elasticity of the skin, a face lift is a winning answer. But i'm afraid of medical procedures of whatever sort so i try to moisturize as much as i can. Having beautiful skin is one secret to staying young looking young as skin specialists would say.

workloads on top of other workloads

Here in the office, one associate may not only work on his assigned project. Sometimes, he/she gets to tackle tasks other than his pre assigned tasks. Reasons could be urgent customer request or tight deadline or both. Or it could be that the previous assigned associate is currently not available to work on a certain request so another associate will have to take his/her place. Worst case scenario, previous assigned associate has resigned and is therefore deemed necessary that another engineer may take his/her project on top of his/her current workload. Case like this is crucial i may say. It will take longer lead time for the succeeding one to finish in addition to the amount of time to be accumulated for the learning curve. However, this may not be inevitable as we can't hold on people to stick with the company forever nor ask people to stick on one project for a lifetime, well rhetorically speaking. Maybe a task management software will do some magic and aid in organizing various tasks around.

sensitive to cold weather

I'm the type of person who is very sensitive to cold weather. I easily get colds. When stuck in a room with air conditioner, i'll end up nursing back pains and cough. You probably wouldn't want me to be your roommate because i'd prefer a non-aircon room! I'm fine with non-air con rooms as long as there is good air ventilation. I remember when we were in Bantayan, i woke up chilling as i could not contain the coldness. I could not move. I just hugged myself in the corner of the bed. I had to ask someone from outside to turn off the aircon because i could not move. When travelling, i need to wear jackets because if not i'll end up aching with stomach spasms. That's why it's a must i carry with me thick sweatshirts or cardigans. I'm even thinking of buying Harley jackets, it will surely be comfortable and i'll rock wearing it.

houseguests

Our humble abode last week was a house to 12 persons. My cousin (daughter of my mother's brother) and her two brothers plus her daughter plus her mother-in-law and sister-in-law arrived from Leyte. It's a shame that we could not be a very great host considering how small our house is. They have to content themselves sleeping next to each other in a very small space. I wish our house is like a mansion, big enough to cater visitors from the province. They were here for almost two weeks. One of the cousins is still here looking for a job. Well, I hope the next time they get here, they'll get to sleep in a comfortable room. Maybe they have to come back in 5 years time. LOL! Sometimes, our house is like a day care center too. My nephews are always left in my mother's care when their nannies are out. That sets me to thinking. Maybe we should go into homecare services something - we already have a few clients in hand. Hmnn that reminds me of Austin assisted living home in Texas.

trips to the north

A couple of weekends ago, me and my friend Glorie went to Tabugun. Tabugun is a town situated north of Cebu. We were to visit our online friend Amy who arrived from France. I told Glorie we'll meet up around 9:00am in the north bus terminal. I was on my way when she sent me an sms telling me that she already was inside the bus. And that she got off because the bus was leaving already and i wasn't there yet. It's a good thing that she got off because she rode on a wrong bus! It was bound for Tabuelan! Maybe we should buy a bus for ourselves since we both love to go on trips anyway! Haha :P

I'll tell more about meeting with Amy and post pictures later.

1st days

I think most women could relate to these little sentiments of mine. Do you ever like those first days? I mean those first days of your period? Menstrual period that is. I don't. I really don't. Because it's either i get migraine or cramps that i could only wish i'm at home sleeping or laying down. It isn't always the case because sometimes i get over the monthly period without the fuzz. Sometimes though, i get this annoying monthly discomforts. There are medicines around but i'm not the type of person who would just easily take medicines to ease pains. They said, discomforts are worst for women who are about to reach the pms stage. But i've heard about progesterone stuff, maybe i should read about this. This will help me and my mother.

supervisory development program

A week ago, i attended this training held in one of the other plant sites. It was a pretty interesting and engaging training. At some point I got sleepy because i had to wake up early but wasn't because of a boring discussion. As part of our activities, we were divided into two group and was asked to build a bridge through the papers and scotchtape only. I think the other group made a better bridge than ours. lol! :P

my group

I'd say i have few inputs on how to become an effective supervisor now. We'll see... ;)

long day today

I woke up to 2 missed calls and 3 text messages from colleagues telling me to come to work early. There's a hot issue concerning one of the projects and needs to be addressed ASAP. I was wishing 3 beautiful inspiring greetings will wake me and not work buzzes. It's really a long day today - 3 workloads to monitor plus deciding on which of the applicants to hire plus looking for the missing tool! I just want to go to sleep now...

my late night trips to the pharmacy

Oftentimes, when i leave the office, malls and department stores are already closed. That means i'll end up shopping in a pharmacy near the office.

Here are rather funny things i encountered last night:

1. I've been trying to become a KSM member. Meaning become a certified and loyal patron and get this card and then earn points everytime i buy something from them. To get the card, you have to pay P100.00 or accumulate P1000.00 worth of receipts. I finally got my card through the receipts and was excited to present it to the cashier - only to be surprised when the cashier gave me 1 peso instead! "Maam, we forgot to swipe your card, here's your 1 peso. For every 200.00 worth of purchase, you get 1 point/1 peso." Ah ok, i stood for seconds comtemplating whether or not to accept the 1 peso. All along, my excitement was just worth 1 peso!

2. I wanted to buy instant coffee mix. I took me a lot of thinking when i saw this coffee brand that has a lot of variety - 4 in 1, 5 in 1 and 7 in 1. Huh? That complicated? I only knew of 3 in 1?

3. Upon leaving the pharmacy, the guard told me "ingat Maam!" They must have hired a new guard. The previous guard wouldn't open up the door for you!

It won't be long until the pharmacists and cashiers would identify me whenever they see me anywhere else.

criminal minds

Opps i'm sure i don't have a criminal mind... but i know a few people with. LOL! :D Well, i'd have to admit, at times i'd think of killing some people. You know, those times, those feelings when someone really upsets you to the limits?

But hey i'm not talking about me being a criminal. I'm talking about this tv series entitled Criminal Minds. I'm never a fan of morbid movies. But last weekend, i chanced on seeing one of the episodes because my younger sister was all attention to it. One episode was all it took and now i'm officially hooked! It's amazing how these agents could solve the mysteries behind the killings. What i'm interested most is on how they could get into the minds of the killers. The series is somewhat similar to that of Dr. House (if you're familiar with it). Only that, they are not investigating medical cases but criminal cases. Come to think of it, there are no hunks in this series but i'm watching it! :P

on fares

I never realized that my birthday, July 14, marked a very significant change in the lives of my fellow Cebuanos this year.

I was on board the public jeepney when i noticed this notice in handwriting posted at the back of the driver seat.

Effective July 14, 2008:
Minimum fare - P8.00
Guadalupe to Ayala - P9.00
Guadalupe to SM - 10.00

Wow! an additional of P2.00 to the fares! Just another episode of crisis we'd have to adhere.

i is for the icing

Last July 30 was the 5 & 10 years service awarding ceremony in the office. I remember in college, the university usually will hold this ceremony in a restaurant in a formal gathering. It's always something my teachers would look forward to. Here in the office, it's absurdly different. The attendees are the awardees just themselves and the management. So, they will have to applaud for themselves - no audience. Hehe....

Well, anyways, i had my 5th year award already some 2 years ago. I just took a photo of their cake and icing, courtesy of my colleague-awardee, Macelle.

how true...

That nothing in this world is free anymore! :P

11 best foods we should start eating

The 11 Best Foods You Aren't Eating

Maybe you should be eating more beets, left, or chopped cabbage.

Nutritionist and author Jonny Bowden has created several lists of healthful foods people should be eating but aren’t. But some of his favorites, like purslane, guava and goji berries, aren’t always available at regular grocery stores. I asked Dr. Bowden, author of “The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth,” to update his list with some favorite foods that are easy to find but don’t always find their way into our shopping carts. Here’s his advice.

1. Beets: Think of beets as red spinach, Dr. Bowden said, because they are a rich source of folate as well as natural red pigments that may be cancer fighters.
How to eat: Fresh, raw and grated to make a salad. Heating decreases the antioxidant power.

2. Cabbage: Loaded with nutrients like sulforaphane, a chemical said to boost cancer-fighting enzymes.
How to eat: Asian-style slaw or as a crunchy topping on burgers and sandwiches.

3. Swiss chard: A leafy green vegetable packed with carotenoids that protect aging eyes.
How to eat it: Chop and saute in olive oil.

4. Cinnamon: Helps control blood sugar and cholesterol.
How to eat it: Sprinkle on coffee or oatmeal.

5. Pomegranate juice: Lowers blood pressure and loaded with vitamin C and other antioxidants.
How to eat: Just drink it.

6. Dried plums: Okay, so they are really prunes, but packed with cancer-fighting antioxidants.
How to eat: Wrapped in prosciutto and baked.

7. Pumpkin seeds: The most nutritious part of the pumpkin and packed with magnesium; high levels of the mineral are associated with lower risk for early death.
How to eat: Roasted as a snack, or sprinkled on salad.

8. Sardines: Dr. Bowden calls them “health food in a can.'’ They are high in omega-3’s, contain virtually no mercury and are loaded with calcium. They also contain iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper and manganese as well as a full complement of B vitamins.
How to eat: Choose sardines packed in olive or sardine oil. Eat plain, mixed with salad, on toast, or mashed with dijon mustard and onions as a spread.

9. Turmeric: The “superstar of spices,'’ it has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
How to eat: Mix with scrambled eggs or in any vegetable dish.

10. Frozen blueberries: Even though freezing can degrade some of the nutrients in fruits and vegetables, frozen blueberries are available year-round and don’t spoil; associated with better memory in animal studies.
How to eat: Blended with yogurt or chocolate soy milk and sprinkled with crushed almonds.

11. Canned pumpkin: A low-calorie vegetable that is high in fiber and immune-stimulating vitamin A; fills you up on very few calories.
How to eat: Mix with a little butter, cinnamon and nutmeg.

thank you, dear God

Dear GOD,

I want to thank You for what you have already done. I am not going to wait until I see results or receive rewards; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until I feel better or things look better; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until people say they are sorry or until they stop talking about me; I am thanking you right now.. I am not going to wait until the pain in my body disappears ; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until my financial situation improves; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until the children are asleep and the house is quiet; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until I get promoted at work or until I get the job; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until I understand every experience in my life that has caused me pain or grief; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until the journey gets easier or the challenges are removed.

I am thanking you right now. I am thanking you because I am alive. I am thanking you because I made it through the day's difficulties. I am thanking you because I have walked around the obstacles.

I am thanking you because I have the ability and the opportunity to do more and do better.

I'm thanking you because FATHER, YOU haven't given up on me.

truly best

Been contemplating... i thought below is a nice article.

----------

It's easy to think that life is unfair, and to lower your expectations accordingly. It's easy to find someone or something to blame for your disappointments, and then to give up on moving forward.

It's easy to convince yourself that you can't, and to find plenty of perfectly valid reasons for hiding away from life. But what does that really accomplish? It's easy to settle for less than you know you can be. Yet doing so can often lead to a terribly difficult and disappointing life.

The easiest choices in the short term usually bring the most difficult consequences in the long run. So the more you seek a life of ease, the more uncomfortable, the more truly uneasy it becomes.

To choose what is best, for yourself, for your world, is not usually the easiest choice. To follow the path of what is best takes commitment, effort, some discomfort and sacrifice.

Rather than quickly jumping on the easiest choice, consider the long-term effects on your precious and irreplaceable life. Look at the big picture, and you'll find yourself choosing what is truly best.

At 28 -- You don't need to tell her a story to take her to bed.

At 38 -- She tells you a story and takes you to bed.

At 48 -- She tells you a story to avoid going to bed.

At 58 -- You stay in bed to avoid her story.

At 68 -- If you take her to bed, that'll be a story!

At 78 -- What story??? What bed??? Who the hell are you???

closing cycles

Closing Cycles (Paulo Coelho)

One always has to know when a stage comes to an end. If we insist on staying longer than the necessary time, we lose the happiness and the meaning of the other stages we have to go through. Closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters - whatever name we give it, what matters is to leave in the past the moments of life that have finished.

Did you lose your job? Has a loving relationship come to an end? Did you leave your parents' house? Gone to live abroad? Has a long-lasting friendship ended all of a sudden? You can spend a long time wondering why this has happened. You can tell yourself you won't take another step until you find out why certain things that were so important and so solid in your life have turned into dust, just like that. But such an attitude will be awfully stressing for everyone involved: your parents, your husband or wife, your friends, your children, your sister, everyone will be finishing chapters, turning over new leaves, getting on with life, and they will all feel bad seeing you at a standstill.

None of us can be in the present and the past at the same time, not even when we try to understand the things that happen to us. What has passed will not return: we cannot forever be children, late adolescents, sons that feel guilt or rancor towards our parents, lovers who day and night relive an affair with someone who has gone away and has not the least intention of coming back. Things pass, and the best we can do is to let them really go away.

That is why it is so important (however painful it may be!) to destroy souvenirs, move, give lots of things away to orphanages, sell or donate the books you have at home. Everything in this visible world is a manifestation of the invisible world, of what is going on in our hearts - and getting rid of certain memories also means making some room for other memories to take their place. Let things go. Release them. Detach yourself from them. Nobody plays this life with marked cards, so sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. Do not expect anything in return, do not expect your efforts to be appreciated, your genius to be discovered, your love to be understood. Stop turning on your emotional television to watch the same program over and over again, the one that shows how much you suffered from a certain loss: that is only poisoning you, nothing else.

Nothing is more dangerous than not accepting love relationships that are broken off, work that is promised but there is no starting date, decisions that are always put off waiting for the "ideal moment." Before a new chapter is begun, the old one has to be finished: tell yourself that what has passed will never come back. Remember that there was a time when you could live without that thing or that person - nothing is irreplaceable, a habit is not a need. This may sound so obvious, it may even be difficult, but it is very important.

Closing cycles. Not because of pride, incapacity or arrogance, but simply because that no longer fits your life. Shut the door, change the record, clean the house, shake off the dust. Stop being who you were, and change into who you are.

fire alarm!

I've been working in this company for over 7 years now. Yet, everytime the fire alarm goes off, i'm still like a newbie who'd panic like crazy!!! I'd know that they're just false alarms but i'd still halt for a minute then couldn't think of what to do. Whether i'd shut down my pc or grab my mobile phone or grab my bag and go out. It's an SOP to immediately leave the workstation when an alarm is heared.

Earlier was no excuse. My heartbeat beats like crazy and i just stood for a minute or so before i finally moved. The picture above are my officemates making our way outside the company premise.

to straight or to curl?

Growing up, i always wanted my hair curly. So, during commencement exercises at the end of each school year, i would cry if my mother would not bring me to our beautician neighbor and have my hair permed. I would not attend the ceremony if my hair isn't curled! At one point, my hair got damaged and wouldn't return to its original straightness. During my entire highschool and college days, i just had my hair tied in ponytail because i didn't like it. I trimmed my hair really short after graduation and decided to have it treated. I've resorted to hair relaxation and rebonding. Now, my hair's straight but not the same smooothness as before it was tapped by all those medicines. Last night, i got crazy i wanted my hair to be curly! So i took the curling iron and curl my hair to my heart's content! hehe! :D

a very special love

A very special love - i wish something that i have found for myself. Sadly not. Heller! It's a movie! :D It's a local movie starred by Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz. Sure thing, it's just one of those romantic movie flicks but i can't help but laugh and smile all throughout the movie! Atot! Sige rako hagikhik! It's not corny but really funny and heartwarming. And opps, for the first time, i've fallen in love for John Lloyd! :P He's so cute and i just love Sarah's dresses in the movie. They could make a good love team as well. Up until now, i'm still giggling!

reduce stress

CHRISTIAN WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS

An Angel says, "Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice."

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don't use creditcards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut).
This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough rest.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.

21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

22. Every day, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you Jesus."

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33. Talk less; listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36 . Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before. GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)

is it august already?

Is it August already? Oh my! It's just yesterday - that I lamented - that i can't believe how time flies so fast - that i can't believe it's already July! My birthday has passed and all, yet i still can't get over of the idea that we have traversed half of the year already. And now it's August! Waahhhh! just a few more months and it's the BER month! Toinks!

panghabwa part 2

After i have moved to the new lab in the office, I took another leap of arranging my stuff today. I have two cabinets but i was told they're going to get my other cabinet as one person shall only have one cabinet. (wala na sila budget para cabinet sa mga new intakes! lol!) I'm mad because i have a lot of stuff and i don't know where to put them all! Anways, i spent an hour or so doing some cleaning and arranging.

abeh nimo ug unsa sulod sa? mga karton diay to! hek hek!

In order to give your employees a longer weekend to spend time with their families, the declared Special (non-working) holiday on August 6 shall be swapped to Monday, August 4, 2008.
